| One important principle of non-intensive farming is to give each
plant room to grow and produce fruit naturally. Unlike an orchard, fruit trees are not planted as a monoculture, but spread throughout Nd.
Each species is given its own space, or planted near a complementary
species. In this photo, we see
four fruit-bearing trees together: coconut, banana, mango and papaya. Placing different fruit trees near one another allows them to
complement each other's needs, rather than competing for the same nutrients.
