Water can be pumped out of the open well at Nd in two different ways. One uses a floating pump operated by solar power, and is used when high throughput is required, but for use near the well itself. The other uses power from the engine run by honge oil, extracted from a particular variety of tree that grows naturally here, and is a submersible pump that can be lifted to over 200 ft. in height. Here we see one of the floating pumps, drawing water for the fields.
The local stone worker who built our open well was so skilled he has made this perfectly circular perimeter wall without the aid of a single instrument. He also made steps that go right down to the bottom of the well, 38 ft deep, so that periodic cleaning may be carried out.
